In the meantime, we have Metroid Dread coming our way on October 8. Given that the project was effectively rebooted, it’s probably way too early in development to show anything meaningful. We all know the high standards Nintendo has for its IP and as Takahashi explained back in 2019, it hadn’t reached those standards initially. “We are working hard on the latest game in the Metroid Prime series, Metroid Prime 4, which we previously announced.” But while no launch date was given, it seems the Metroid Prime 4 release date has now been leaked by a European game retailer.

The long-running series hasn’t had an installment since Metroid Prime 3 in 2007. No doubt this set the game back quite a bit, which explains why we haven’t heard much of it lately and why it wasn’t showcased during the E3 Nintendo Direct.īut rest assured, the game is still in development. Nintendo’s senior managing executive officer Shinya Takahashi even brought it up to reassure fans the game hasn’t been cancelled. Last year at E3, Nintendo announced that Metroid Prime 4 will come out for the Switch in 2019. In 2019, it was reported that development on Metroid Prime 4 was being rebooted under the guidance of Retro Studios, who helped develop the original Metroid Prime series.
Well, it’s still in development, but after some problem early on, the project was essentially restarted from scratch two years ago. As exciting as this announcement was, it begs the question: what happened to Metroid Prime 4? You know, the game that was announced all the way back at E3 2017.
