Stairs work horribly, you can't shoot enemies who stand on lower levels, while, in reality, you should have an advantage over them, or, at least, be able to fucking hit them. More money? Drone that picks up loot? Are you serious? Same can be said about augments and passives. Machine guns? Even on maxed accuracy, you get horrible spread if you'll hold LMB for more than 2 seconds. Sniper rifles? Again, enemies move much faster than they should so good luck trying to hit them, and even when you do the damage is not that great.

Shotguns? LoL, good luck trying to use them effectively when enemies run around like crazy and you die in several seconds without cover, plus their clips are very small meaning you'll have to reload very often. Many weapons are useless or, to be precise, not worth the effort, at least in single mode. That's just lazy and, again unfair because your health is capped at 20 skillpoints that you can use to increase it. And that's just normal difficulty and I was using Mk10 energy weapon (max level of upgrade)! Also, developers decided to use the worst possible way of making the game harder (both on harder difficulties and over the course of the game) - enemies just do more damage and have more health. Enemies have too much health, even on normal, sometimes it's getting so ridiculous that you just sit for half of a minute shooting one fucking turret. Maybe it's easier in co-op, but, in that case, it's still a problem, because there are people who can play in single mode only. Enemies use covers very rarely and just constantly push you which is a problem because you get quickly overwhelmed. Unfortunately, that's exactly the case with The Ascent.
The ascent gameplay full#
Usually, developers, in their games, try to not stoop so low to make enemies overly aggressive: you usually fight against several enemies simultaneously and, if they will fight at their max strength and full aggression, they will just decimate you, because you're all alone and there is not much you can do. Also, there is no auto-level, which is partly the reason of this problem. And the second type becomes more and more often towards the end of the game. There are basically two types of battles in game: you either steamroll everyone on your path or getting gang-raped by an army of undying enemies. Over the course of the game I didn't care about any of them, they're just dummies made to advance the story. Second, the characters you interact with, are also very boring. They're (you can play either as male or female, not that it matters) not voiced, they don't say anything during dialogues, just listen to briefings (most of which are just "go there and kill everyone") and maybe sometimes you can ask some questions, again, not that it matters. First of all, your characters doesn't have any. And that's the kindest word I can use to describe it. + The core gameplay is simple, yet satisfying. Still, it's definitely a good thing that all this exists in the game. Can't really say anything about quality, because I wasn't really interested in reading tons of text explaining different corporations, races, etc. Although, to be precise, I'm talking mostly about quantity. Not always, unfortunately, but in "special" story fights (boss battles or "defend the point" battles) music was really good. The level of detail is simply amazing and visuals were probably the only thing that kept me going till the end. This is one of the best looking if not the best looking Cyberpunk worlds I've ever seen. + Game is very beautiful, both in terms of graphics (played on max settings, 1920x1080p without RTS and DLXX) and visual design.
